If you are married to a Thai then you can apply for a marriage visa and have this visa extended in Thailand for a period of 1 year at a time. The visa is much better than having a tourist visa as you can apply for a work permit while having this visa.

Before you arrive in Thailand you can apply for a marriage visa at a Thai embassy. This visa will allow you to stay in Thailand for 3 months only. The visa can also be multiple entry and this is usually 4 entries per visa. When oyu enter Thailand you will use your first entry and this will be for 90 days. Before the end of the 90 days you need to do a visa run and leave the country and re-enter. The second entry will then be used and you can stay in Thailand for another 90 days again.

Most peopel however opt to obtain the 3 months single entry marriage visa and then to have it extended in Thailand for 1 year. For this you do not need to leave Thailand again for the year however you have to do what is called 90 day reporting to Thai immigration. In order to obtain the marriage visa you need to have the following:

Your passport;

Passport photos;

A completed application form;

Copy of your Thai wifes ID card;

Copy of your marriage certificate;

Copy of your wifes ‘house papers’

Copy of your passport

These are the bascis for the 3 month visa. When you exnted the visa in Thailand you would need more documents however an attorney can do that for you. You need to meet the financial requirements being that you must hold 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank account or have an income of at least 40,000 Baht a month. They do accept a combination of the two so you can ask to have them match the values.

The marriage visa before it expires in 1 year you would simply have to repeat the process. The process does become complicated as they need to see proof of a relationship, a map to your house or apartment and a range of other bits of paper that needs to be submitted. Most expats simply use the services of an attorney for the application process.

Speak to us online on our main website, call us on our tollfree US or on our UK numbers or you can walk into any of our offices in Thailand to assist you with the application process.

Do it now!

Planning on visiting Thailand for more than 30 days or crossing over a land border into Thailand. If these are your plans then it is best to obtain a tourist visa before you arrive in Asia. These are the limitations and reasons for the visa.

When you cross over into Thailand across a land border they will only allow you 15 days stay in Thailand. The visa on arrival in Thailand had changed 2 years ago. If you do have a tourist visa however, you are allowed to stay in Thailand for 60 days. This can be further extended at Thai Immigration for another 30 days for the cost of 1,900 Baht.

The tourist visa does not allow you to work in Thailand however it can be converted. This however takes 3 weeks and being that the visa is very short – 60 days, you will be better off applying for a business visa again for the application of a work permit.

The following documents are needed for the tourist visa:

(a) You require your passport and it must be valid for at least 60 days.

(b) The application for the Thai tourist visa must be completed.

(c) One recent passport photo.

(d) A fully paid airline ticket. They might also accept an e-ticket

(e) Proof of financial means. This varies for the tourist visa as it is based on 20,000 Baht for an individual and 40,000 Baht per family.

(f) Any other documents which may be needed by the consular officer.

If you need further information then speak to any of our immigration consultants about the tourist visa on live chat on our main website. Talk to us today about a tourist visa for Thailand.

Depending on what you wish to do in Thailand you would need to supply the Thai Embassy with the documents needed for what it is that you wish to do. Teaching, owning a business or investment. These are the basics for the business visa.

The business visa is there just for that – business. If you want to teach in Thailand and need a business visa for your work permit application then you would need to provide the following:

1. Police certificate verifying that you haves no criminal record;

2. A contract from your school;

3. Evidence of educational training;

4. Letter of approval from the education department.

Those are the very basics that they will require from you to submit for the application for a business visa for the purposes of teaching in Thailand. Normally the schools know what to provide and will hand you a bundle of documents for submission to the embassy. If it is your own private school then it would be best to speak to on of our attorneys in Thailand with regards to drafting and obtaining all the needed forms and documents needed for the application for the visa.

If you are looking to set up a business in Thailand then you need a letter from your company stating your position salary and your length of stay in Thailand. You also need to explain what it is that you propose to do in Thailand for the visa. You can also present a letter of invitation from a Thai company to support your visa which would have to include the company’s name, registration number, location, company profile and balance sheets. Again if you need to visit Thailand for the purposes of business then call one of our immigration lawyers on our UK or US toll-free number now. You can also visit our website and speak to us on live chat for assistance.

One last word on the business visa. It does not allow you to work in Thailand only apply for a work permit or to conduct meetings with regards to doing business in Thailand. Many people talk about a work visa for Thailand however no such visa exists. The business visa is only the first step to the work permit. Don’t get caught while misunderstanding the law.

Again – call us for assistance.
